The ANA2022 meeting is the key venue for academic neurology and neuroscience research, attracting clinicians, academics and researchers across specialties. This year’s scientific sessions focus on groundbreaking topics – such as the connections between environmental pollutants and the rise in Parkinson’s disease – and are already receiving high-level media attention.

- Krishnankutty Sathian, MBBS, PhD, FANA (Pennsylvania State University), Novel Perspectives on Neurodegeneration: New insights from studies of neurodegenerative diseases that focus on underlying mechanisms and genetic diversity.
- Jack M. Parent, MD, FANA (University of Michigan), Brain Organoid Models of Neurological Disorders: A novel approach to study brain disorders using 3D human tissue structures.
- Sattar Khoshkhoo, MD (Brigham and Women’s Hospital)* and Annapurna Poduri, MD, MPH (Boston Children’s Hospital)*, Emerging Role of Somatic Mutations in Neurology: New treatment pathways for disorders like epilepsy are coming into view, partly thanks to research in somatic mutations: post-zygotic genetic changes that result in genetic variants present in only part of the body or brain.
- Sheng-Han Kuo, MD (Columbia University), Peripheral Contributions to Neurologic Disorders: Adaptive Immunity and Metabolic Influences: Emerging research highlighting the role of non-neurological systems—from the gut microbiome and insulin to the immune system—in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
