Newswise — [CHICAGO, IL, October 25, 2022] — As the American Neurological Association’s 147th Annual Meeting wraps up today, October 25, the ANA is holding a Media Roundtable at 11 a.m. U.S. Central for reporters to access the latest developments in neurology and neuroscience. The Media Roundtable is your opportunity to connect with leading neurologists about key developments in their fields.
Click here to join the Roundtable via Zoom.
The ANA2022 meeting is the key venue for academic neurology and neuroscience research, attracting clinicians, academics and researchers across specialties. This year’s scientific sessions focus on groundbreaking topics – such as the connections between environmental pollutants and the rise in Parkinson’s disease – and are already receiving high-level media attention.
The Media Roundtable will feature the following speakers discussing these developing areas:
- Frances E. Jensen, MD, FACP, FANA (University of Pennsylvania), Neurologic Dark Matter: Exploring the Exposome that Drives Neurological Disorders: The ANA2022 Presidential Symposium focused on alarming connections emerging between neurologic disease and exposures to environmental chemicals and pollution. View press release.
- Roy H. Hamilton, MD, MS, FANA (University of Pennsylvania), Advancing Neurologic Equity: Challenges and Paths Forward: Causes and consequences of neurologic disparities, and approaches to advance more equitable, inclusive neuroscience and neurologic care.
- Krishnankutty Sathian, MBBS, PhD, FANA (Pennsylvania State University), Novel Perspectives on Neurodegeneration: New insights from studies of neurodegenerative diseases that focus on underlying mechanisms and genetic diversity.
- Jack M. Parent, MD, FANA (University of Michigan), Brain Organoid Models of Neurological Disorders: A novel approach to study brain disorders using 3D human tissue structures.
- Sattar Khoshkhoo, MD (Brigham and Women’s Hospital)* and Annapurna Poduri, MD, MPH (Boston Children’s Hospital)*, Emerging Role of Somatic Mutations in Neurology: New treatment pathways for disorders like epilepsy are coming into view, partly thanks to research in somatic mutations: post-zygotic genetic changes that result in genetic variants present in only part of the body or brain.
- Sheng-Han Kuo, MD (Columbia University), Peripheral Contributions to Neurologic Disorders: Adaptive Immunity and Metabolic Influences: Emerging research highlighting the role of non-neurological systems—from the gut microbiome and insulin to the immune system—in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
*Not present at roundtable; will provide pre-written highlights
The roundtable will feature the session chairs above discussing highlights of each plenary session, with opportunity for members of the media to ask questions.
