Dr. Christopher J. Johnson received his Ph.D. in Sociology with a major in Aging and Family and minor in Social Psychology from Iowa State University, Sociology with major in Aging and Family. He earned his M.A. from University of Northern Iowa in Sociology with major in Aging. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Denver. In research, besides procuring over 3 million dollars in grant and private funding, his interests are in dementia and marriage, design for dementia, suicide, thanatology and religiosity and aging. At his previous university, he was twice awarded 鈥淩esearcher of the Year鈥 in the School of Arts and Sciences.  He has conducted a state-wide needs assessment of elderly in Iowa but specializes in oral histories. He was awarded an, Endowed Professorship in Gerontology based upon his outstanding teaching and research skills.

Dr. Hoffman is a health services researcher with interests in older adult health. His research focuses on quality of care and policies affecting older adults. Specific interests include the prevalence of and outcomes associated with fall injuries, implications of informal and formal caregiving for older adult prevention and health, dyadic relationships between family caregivers and care recipients, and how pay-for-performance programs influence care patterns, injuries, and health outcomes for older adults and their caregivers. Dr. Hoffman's work has been published in leading journals such as JAMA Network Open, the Journal of General Internal Medicine, Medical Care, Medical Care Research and Review, Health Services Research, and The Gerontologist.

Sheria Robinson-Lane, a gerontologist and assistant professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, is an expert in palliative and long-term care and nursing administration. Her research focuses on the care and support of older adults with cognitive and/or functional disabilities, and on ways older adults adapt to changes in health, particularly how adaptive coping strategies affect health outcomes.

Sarita A. Mohanty, MD, MPH, MBA, serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The SCAN Foundation. The SCAN Foundation is one of the largest foundations in the United States focused on improving the quality of health and life for older adults. Its mission is to advance a coordinated and easily navigated system of high-quality services for older adults that preserve dignity and independence. 

The SCAN Foundation has been a national leader in the development and scaling of person-centered care models for vulnerable adults with complex needs, including those served by Medicare and Medicaid. The foundation has been at the forefront of policy discussions regarding health care for older adults and coordinating services both for older adults and their caregivers.

Previously, Sarita served as the Vice President of Care Coordination for Medicaid and Vulnerable Populations at Kaiser Permanente. Sarita was previously Assistant Professor of Medicine at USC; Chief Medical Officer of COPE Health Solutions, a health care management consulting company; and Senior Medical Director at L.A. Care, the largest U.S. public health plan. Sarita was recently named a National Quality Forum (NQF) Quality Policy Fellow and has served on several NQF committees related to quality measurement. 

Sarita completed her Internal Medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and research fellowship at Harvard Medical School. She earned her MD from Boston University, MPH from Harvard University, and MBA from UCLA. She completed undergraduate work at UC Berkeley. She currently is an Associate Professor at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine and is a practicing internal medicine physician with Kaiser Permanente. Sarita enjoys international travel, tennis, and spending time with her husband and three children.

Carmen Morano, PhD

Dr. Carmen Morano is Professor and Director of the Doctoral Program at the State University of New York: University at Albany School of Social Welfare. In addition to being a John A. Hartford Faculty Scholar, Carmen serves on the Veterans Administration Geriatrics and Gerontology Advisory Committee. His research focuses primarily in the areas of Gerontology, Health Care, and Inter-professional Collaboration and Education. Carmen is currently overseeing program evaluation projects that include Multidisciplinary Collaborations focusing on multidisciplinary team approaches to Police De-Escalation, Elder Abuse, and Community Based Transitional Care Programs targeting high risk older adults.

Andrea Mraz Nelson, PhD

Dr. Andrea Mraz Nelson, Clinical Assistant Professor and Dean's Fellow for High Impact Practices, teaches online courses in the Health Sciences and Administration department including Medical Terminology, Gerontology, Health Ethics and Professionalism, and Current Issues in the Health Sciences.

Dr. Nelson has been teaching at UWF since 2013, first as an adjunct instructor then, as of 2015, a full-time faculty member.  She has worked as a physical therapist for 21 years and taps into her clinical background to share real-world learning experiences with her students. She received the Geriatric Certified Specialist designation from the American Physical Therapy Association and is also a Certified Lymphedema Therapist.

Dr. Nelson received her B.S. degree in psychology from Florida State University, M.S. degree in physical therapy from University of Alabama at Birmingham and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from University of South Alabama. She also completed a year-long faculty scholar program in geriatrics at the UAB Geriatric Education Center in 2016. She is a Quality Matters certified online instructor.
