Patricia Barrington, teaches health promotion and planning, changing health behaviors, stress management, theory and foundation of health promotion, and worksite wellness. 

Barrington has been developing, implementing, and managing health promotion programs and disease prevention initiatives for the past 30 years at military bases, non-profit organizations, and community collaborations. 

She leverages her experience in tobacco and alcohol prevention education with her desire to improve the quality of life of UWF employees, faculty and students, and residents of surrounding communities. In 2014, she led the task force to develop a tobacco policy for the UWF campus. The result of the task force鈥檚 effort was a tobacco-free campus policy which went into effect in 2016.  

Barrington holds several leadership positions, influencing public policy and programs in health promotion. She was appointed by the Governor of Florida as a state representative for the Florida Tobacco Advisory Council in 2015; president of the Florida Society of Public Health Education; chair of Healthy Environments Are Tobacco-free Partnership in Escambia County; and first vice president for Community Drug and Alcohol Council.    

At UWF since 2005, she is committed to supporting the next generation of community educators by providing undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience through internships in the community. Many of her former students who are working in the field of health promotion return to UWF to mentor undergraduate students, sharing their experience and providing advice on the current job market. 

She received a bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology from Bradley University, and a master's and doctorate in community health education from the University of West Florida.

Scott Glassman, PsyD, is a nationally recognized expert in positive psychology, health behavior change, and motivation, as well as a licensed psychologist and author of A Happier You: A Seven-Week Program to Transform Negative Thinking into Positivity and Resilience. He directs the Master of Applied Positive Psychology program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and has received numerous grants for developing patient-centered healthy lifestyle interventions. His seven-week wellness program, A Happier You 庐, has been featured on SiriusXM and NPR. He is also in the process of adapting the program for youth athletes. 

Dr. Glassman is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and has been a speaker and trainer at many national and regional organizations, including the American Psychological Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, and the National Committee for Quality Assurance. He contributes to Psychology Today and the health section of The Philadelphia Inquirer. 

Dr. Glassman has been interviewed and/or cited by Forbes, AARP, Prevention Magazine, Well+Good, The Hill, KATU-TV Portland, NBC10 Philadelphia, CBS3 Philadelphia, Academic Minute, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and other print and online outlets.

Mark Dust is a combat veteran of the Iraq war and returned home with PTSD. His quest to understand his PTSD symptoms led him to complete a Ph.D. in Health Promotion Sciences with a concentration in Neurocognitive Sciences. His research focuses on the potential for primary prevention of traumatic stress-related disorders and how to moderate the symptoms of chronic stress and traumatic stress. He can speak to how chronic and acute stress affect our decision-making abilities and ways to recognize and respond to stress in our bodies. He also can discuss the evolution of the human stress response, how our nervous system responds to modern-day stressors, and how the pandemic has influenced stress levels and our ability to manage elevated stress.
