Sophia L. Thomas, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, PPCNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, is president of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners庐 (AANP). A family and pediatric nurse practitioner (NP) at the Daughters of Charity Health System in Kenner (New Orleans), Louisiana, Dr. Thomas鈥� clinical practice has focused on providing care to the medically underserved families. Dr. Thomas is active within several professional organizations, including the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners (LANP). She has served in elected and appointed leadership and committee positions, including as president of LANP, and previously in AANP as Region 6 Director. Dr. Thomas was inducted as a Fellow in both the AANP in 2012 and the National Academy of Practice in Nursing in 2013. In addition to her advocacy, Dr. Thomas impacts NP education as clinical faculty for Georgetown University鈥檚 FNP program as well as through publications and presentations on multiple clinical topics. As AANP President and spokesperson, her multimedia reach includes print, radio and television. She also speaks extensively throughout the U.S. and internationally, advocating for NP scope of practice legislation and for improving patient access to quality, affordable health care.

Jill Van Der Like, DNP, MSN, RNC is the Director of the Nursing Skills & Simulation Learning Center and an Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice. Dr. Van Der Like has been a registered nurse for 35 years, and a clinical instructor for fifteen of those years. She uses student-centered simulation instruction to improve the quality and safety in patient care, and interprofessional education and research for community health. She is active in the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and Florida Nurses Association. She volunteers as the Student Nurses Association Advisor, and for the Pensacola Bay Area IMPACT 100.

Dr. Van Der Like received her Associate of Science in Nursing-Registered Nurse degree at Pensacola State College, Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of South Alabama, a National Certification Corporation certification for Inpatient Obstetrics, Master of Science in Nursing/Nursing Education at University of West Florida, and Doctor of Nursing Practice at University of Miami.

Dr. Garrido-Castro is a medical oncologist specialized in breast cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.  Since joining the Breast Oncology Center at Dana-Farber in 2016, Dr. Garrido-Castro has established an active clinical practice and research efforts focused on the development of novel therapies to improve outcomes in patients with breast cancer.  Dr. Garrido-Castro is Co-Director of the Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) Working Group at Dana-Farber and leads clinical trials studying immunotherapy and targeted therapy approaches for patients with breast cancer.
