Deborah A. Pasko, Pharm.D., M.H.A., is the Sr. Director of Medication Safety and Quality at ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists). With more than 22 years of pharmacy practice experience, Dr. Pasko leads ASHP鈥檚 efforts to improve medication safety and reduce opioid misuse. 

Dr. Pasko鈥檚 role at ASHP includes working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the White House on national medication safety initiatives. She also serves as an advisor to the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), the Joint Commission (TJC), the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) National Coordinating Council for Medication Error Reporting and Prevention (NCC-MERP) safety committee, and the National Quality Forum (NQF). 

Dr. Pasko earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Idaho State University College of Pharmacy. She has a Masters of Health Administration from the Walden University School of Health Sciences and completed a fellowship in Nephrology and Critical Care at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Dr. Pasko has received numerous awards including the Cheers Award for Medication Safety. 

Dr. Michael L. Chang is a pediatric infectious disease specialist in Houston, Texas, and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area. His specialty is pediatric infectious diseases and he treats children for a broad array of diseases caused by germs, viruses, and fungi, ranging from flu to hospital-acquired infections to pneumonia. Dr. Chang’s professional interests include antimicrobial stewardship which involves studying and promoting the appropriate, optimal and judicious use of antibiotics for pediatric patients and Carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections.

Michele Cournan, DNP, RN, ANP-BC, FNP, CRRN has been a rehabilitation nurse for over 20 years with experience in acute rehabilitation and academia. She is currently the Director of Clinical Services at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital, an acute free-standing rehabilitation facility in Schenectady, New York. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Excelsior College, a part-time faculty at Walden University, and has a private business as a legal nurse consultant. She has published several articles and delivered many presentations nationally over the past 15 years. Most recently Michele has presented webinars related to the care and management of  COVID-19 patients in rehabilitation facilities. She has also presented a series of webinars nationally on the Impact Act and the resulting changes in the regulations for functional assessment. Michele is a Past-President of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses.

Dr. Faisal Masud serves as Board Member, Houston Methodist Board of Directors, and Medical Director of Center for Critical Care at Houston Methodist Hospital System overseeing 8 hospitals ICU鈥檚 and V-ICU. He also serves as Vice-Chair for Quality and Patient Safety, the Associate Quality Officer, and Medical Director, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center. He is Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology, Weill Cornell Medical College, Professor of Anesthesiology at Houston Methodist Institute of Academic Medicine, and Professor in the Department of Acute & Continuing Care at UT-Houston. He received his training at Duke University Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Among his many awards is Presidential Gold Medal. He has been the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching four times, the Dean H. Morrow Resident Mentor Award in 2001, and the most prestigious Fulbright & Jaworski Faculty Excellence Award in Educational Leadership. He was elected a member of the Academy of Distinguished Educators at Baylor College of Medicine. He received the Association of Professional in Infection Control (APIC) National award for Heroes in Infection Prevention 2010. He is also a recipient of the Overstreet Award for exemplifying the best of the medical profession.

Dr. Masud's leadership resulted in great improvements in patient care and clinical outcomes, in patient safety & quality, sepsis control, central line infections, ventilator associated pneumonia, surgical site infections, blood transfusions, pharmacy etc. resulting hundreds of lives saved and millions of dollar in cost savings.

His focus is on improving healthcare in underdeveloped health systems in less developed countries and has been doing volunteer work to improve healthcare in vulnerable areas for many years. He is also the Board Member of Shifa USA a Houston based charitable organization providing free medical and dental care, women shelter, etc.

He has many research projects, publications and is an invited faculty at multiple local, state, national meetings and international conferences and meetings including Canada, Malaysia, Israel, China, Pakistan, Brazil, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia.

, is the chief medical officer (CMO) and chief digital officer (CDO) at UC San Diego Health. This dual, complementary role provides leadership to medical staff, ensuring that standards and protocols are in place to provide the highest quality of care to patients. He also serves as an associate dean at the School of Medicine, overseeing and aligning our education and research missions within the clinical environment, and leading our journey to become a highly reliable, learning health system.
As CMO, Longhurst is responsible for maintaining excellence in clinical care, including regulatory, patient and clinician satisfaction, quality and safety, and medical affairs. He works alongside leaders at UC San Diego Health, the School of Medicine, and UC Health to improve care delivery and oversees UC San Diego Health’s reputation for delivering safe, innovative, patient-centered care.
Longhurst, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who specializes in the care of newborns. As a newborn hospitalist, he meets with parents and their babies during their postpartum stay in the hospital, providing daily care to infants. This care includes newborn examinations, screening tests and performing procedures like frenotomy.
Longhurst is passionate about implementing innovative digital solutions that help improve the patient experience. As the CDO, he leads UC San Diego Health’s technology strategy, overseeing initiatives that advance the infrastructure across UC San Diego and the UC Health system. In addition, Longhurst leads the clinical activities of the academic medical center, working alongside clinical leaders to guide the planning of quality, safety, and performance excellence of programs.  He is also faculty in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Pediatrics in the UC San Diego School of Medicine, maintaining an active clinical practice as a newborn hospitalist and pursuing scholarship in care quality, patient safety, and health informatics.
