If you get cold sores, you’re not alone. In fact, more than half of Americans ages 14 to 49 carry the virus that causes them, with the virus staying in the body after the sores clear. While common, this Valentine’s Day we’re all about spreading the love, not cold sores.
Some precautions you can take?
To avoid spreading cold sores, skip the kissing, avoid other intimate contact, don’t share personal items like lip balm, and stay away from sharing food and beverages. Cold sores tend to clear within two weeks, and you’ll be back to celebrating in no time (who needs a cliché holiday anyway?).
We'd love to connect you with Dr. Chris Adigun, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist in North Carolina, to chat further about recognizing cold sores before they appear, treatments, and preventive tips.
