Newswise — STONY BROOK, NY, February 15, 2019--Stony Brook University Hospital has appointed Julie Mirkin, DNP, MA, RN, as the Chief Nursing Officer, effective February 7.
In her new role, Dr. Mirkin will lead the overall clinical and administrative operations and strategy for patient care services. She will also be working closely with Dr. Mark Sands, Chief Medical Officer, in advancing a model of shared nursing and physician leadership to improve patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.
Dr. Mirkin comes to Stony Brook from NewYork-Presbyterian HealthCare System where she served as Vice President for Care Coordination. As VP, she was responsible for leading and implementing system-wide strategic initiatives in all 10 NewYork-Presbyterian Hospitals, to promote a collaborative practice model for care coordination/transitions of care. She also implemented evidenced-based standards of practice which improved clinical patient outcomes, patient engagement scores and staff engagement, as well as numerous initiatives that resulted in improved organizational outcomes in length of stay and prevention of readmissions. Prior to that, Dr. Mirkin served as a Senior Consulting Manager for IMA Consulting and was the Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Nassau University Medical Center, where she provided leadership and oversight of nursing and all clinical services and redesigned and implemented systems and processes that improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Mirkin currently resides in Hewlett Harbor, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SUNY at Stony Brook, a Master of Arts in Nursing Executive Role from Columbia University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University. She is also a graduate of the Wharton School of Business Nurse Executive Fellows Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
