New Brunswick, N.J. (Sept. 23, 2020) – Rutgers University–New Brunswick climatologist David A. Robinson and tree expert Jason Grabosky are available for interviews on the outlook for the fall foliage season in the Garden State.
“Seasonable temperatures, including some cool nights, and adequate rainfall during the growing season creates the potential for a very nice leaf peeping season throughout New Jersey,” said Robinson, New Jersey State Climatologist and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Geography in the School of Arts and Sciences.
“This year, if we continue the trend of mostly sunny days with cool nights, the reds of many oaks will be bright, the red-orange-yellows of maples with be vibrant and the yellows of the aspens and birch will be clear,” said Grabosky, a professor of urban forestry in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Natural Resources in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. “So far with this weather, we’re looking at a slightly earlier season. So, the point is to get outside as soon as possible and then as often as possible and enjoy the reliable beauty of the autumn leaf color change. New Jersey is so fortunate to have both an incredible range of natural habitats, bike trails and hiking trails coupled with a community vision for sustainable conservation of lands and parks within the state.”
