Predicting fire behavior and better-managing land use and prescribed burns are all key to dialing-back the destructive impact of wildfires. Rod Linn can talk about research that helps the fire community fine-tune prescribed burn tactics and better manage lands and also help incident commanders in the field respond more quickly to the quick-changing demands of high-risk wildland firefighting.
Linn spearheaded research and development of the FIRETEC tool used by the Forest Service to model the complex interactions between fire, terrain, vegetation, fuel, and weather.
