Prof. James A. Robinson has been awarded a share of the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2024 for his research on the root causes of global inequality, including the pivotal roles of institutions.

A UChicago faculty member since 2015, Robinson said of his time at the University: “I've felt a kind of intellectual home at the University and in the Harris School and in Department of Political Science. I find the intellectual atmosphere so exciting and rewarding.”

President Paul Alivisatos said that Robinson’s research “lays bare how inclusive institutions really matter to the prosperity of a society in the deepest way.”
