AFTER AN EXPLANATION OF THE IMPORTANCE OF INCREASING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND RECEIVING AN ACCELEROMETER, STUDY PARTICIPANTS WHO WERE ENCOURAGED TO SET GOALS, KEEP TRACK OF THEIR PROGRESS AND WHO RECEIVED FEEDBACK INCREASED THE NUMBER OF DAILY STEPS FROM AN AVERAGE OF 1268 TO 1683, THE PER-DAY DURATION OF LIGHT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY FROM 277 MINUTES TO 293 MINUTES, AND DECREASED THE TIME SPENT SITTING FROM 547 MINUTES TO 523 MINUTES PER DAY. A CONTROL GROUP WHO DID NOT RECORD THEIR PROGRESS NOR RECEIVED FEEDBACK DID NOT IMPROVE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.
