Assaf Harpaz

Newswise — Assaf Harpaz specializes in the areas of federal income tax and business. His primary focus is in the field of international taxation with an emphasis on the intersection of taxation and digitalization. Harpaz explores the tax challenges of the digital economy and the ways to adapt 20th-century tax laws to modern business practices. Additionally, he researches the use of tax expenditures and the historical expansion and politicization of the tax expenditure budget in the U.S. federal income tax system.

Currently serving as an assistant professor at the University of Georgia School of Law, Harpaz recently published “The U.N. Framework Tax Convention: Can it Bridge the North-South Divide?” in Tax Notes International and “International Tax Reform: Who Gets a Seat at the Table?” in the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law. His scholarship has also appeared in the Yale Journal of International Law, the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy and Law and Contemporary Problems.

He has contributed expert analysis for media outlets like Newsweek, WalletHub, FinanceBuzz and the Maurer Global Forum.

Harpaz is an assistant professor at the University of Georgia School of Law. Prior to joining UGA, Harpaz was a visiting assistant professor at the Drexel University Kline School of Law.
