Newswise — Michael Eastman, C.H.T, E.M.T., is a certified hyperbaric technologist and emergency medical technician.
Michael started his career in hyperbaric medicine in 2007, as part of the University of North Carolina Hospital System, working at the Rex Wound Healing Center, where he was the manager and safety director. The center is also a training facility, which allowed him to interact with professionals, in addition to training and mentoring new technologists from around the east coast.
In 2010, Eastman was tapped by Colonel Scott Miller, U.S. Army Medical Material Development Activity, to join his team of medical researchers to study the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on U.S. military personnel suffering from mild to moderate post concussive syndrome and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Eastman was based at MCB Camp Lejeune. The study concluded at the end of 2012, and the clinical findings are still pending.
Michael joined the Center for Wound Care at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Maryland in November of 2012 as the manager and safety director of the HBOT Program. Eastman is also an American Heart Association Basic Life Support instructor.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a painless, non-invasive specialized medical treatment inside a pressurized chamber, in which a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen at greater than normal atmospheric pressure. Modern hyperbaric therapy is highly successful in healing chronic wounds that develop after orthopedic surgery, general surgery, plastic surgery, podiatric surgery, oral surgery, diabetes, infectious disease and emergency medicine.
The HBOT Program at Northwest Hospital is accredited by the influential Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
