Newswise — March 7, 2018 (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) – A surgeon, an astronomer, an ecologist, and an engineer are among the speakers who will participate a live webcast of Perimeter Institute’s “Inspiring Future Women in Science” event on Thursday March 8 at 9AM ET.
The annual event is an inspirational half-day conference that brings together like-minded young women with a strong interest in science. The three keynote talks, and a panel discussion, touch on the rewards, challenges, and possibilities of a career in science. This year, for the first time, the entire in-theatre program will be webcast live on insidetheperimeter.ca and via partner organizations, making it available around the world.
The program includes opening remarks from Mona Nemer, the Chief Science Advisor of Canada, and keynote addresses from Linda Hasenfratz (Chief Executive Officer of Linamar Corporation), Eugenia Duodu (CEO of Visions of Science), and Martha Lenio (Director of Engineering Services at Mars Green Consulting). The program will also include a panel discussion featuring engineer Jenan Abderrahman, astronomer Emily Levesque, wildlife specialist Jesse Popp, and surgeon Monica Torres.
Following each talk, the speakers will answer questions from the online and in-house audience – including questions submitted prior to and during the talk via Facebook and Twitter (using the hashtag #piLIVE). Questions are welcomed from everyone – aspiring scientific explorers, school classes, physics buffs, and general math and science enthusiasts.
