The Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) announced today the appointment of Catherine Régis, Professor at the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Law and Mila member Mila as co-director of the newly created (CAISI) research program.
Announced at the CAISI launch at Mila on November 12, the CIFAR-funded research program, focused on applied and investigator-led research, will enable experts from home and abroad to examine crucial issues related to artificial intelligence safety.
Catherine Régis holds a Canada CIFAR AI Chair, is co-chair of the Responsible AI Working Group at the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), and serves as Director of Social Innovation and International Policy at IVADO. She is actively engaged, both locally and internationally, in addressing issues related to AI governance, safety, and responsible development.
She will co-lead the CAISI research program with , Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the Department of Computer Science, and the Faculty of Law, and a faculty member at the .
