Newswise — BINGHAMTON, NY – Binghamton University recently hosted “Cake Boss” star, chef Buddy Valastro, and will be featured in an episode of the new TLC reality show “Bakery Boss,” slated to air Monday, Jan. 6.

An accomplished master baker, cake decorator and star of the hit TLC reality shows “Cake Boss” and “Next Great Baker,” Buddy was in town to produce an episode for his new series “Bakery Boss.” Production company High Noon Entertainment reached out to Sodexo Campus Services, the University’s dining services partner, for bakery space and four days of production time to tape the show that features Buddy helping struggling business owners. “We were thrilled to host TLC and the ‘Cake Boss’ legend himself and we are really excited to see the Binghamton campus and our dining facilities showcased on primetime TV,” said Ryan Yarosh, director of media and public relations for Binghamton University. “Our role was to let the production crew use our full-service bakery to help a struggling business owner from the area. Students from our culinary groups on campus had the opportunity to meet Buddy, and students, alumni and community members worked on the set.” Buddy is no stranger to a top-notch facility. Back at Buddy’s own 10,000 square-foot factory in Lackawanna, N.J., he and his staff turn out thousands of wedding cakes, specialty cakes and pastries weekly. His award-winning designs have been featured in bridal and baking magazines and his bakery has been featured in books, newspapers including The New York Times and USA Today, and he and his cakes have also been featured on “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “Rachael Ray,” and HBO’s hit series, “The Sopranos.”

At Binghamton, Sodexo helped the chef’s production team with scheduling and facilities, and helped procure unexpected items such as a hand saw, cordless drill, wood screws and ¾” dowel for the finished product.

“The crew brought in their own ingredients and supplies while using our equipment and space for production and storage,” said John Enright II, campus executive chef. “They baked and decorated cookies and cakes each afternoon until midnight.”

According to Enright, the crew’s bakery staff, led by the winner of the last season of “Next Great Baker,” Ashley Holt, were excellent to work with, extremely talented and very accommodating when Sodexo staff asked questions and took photos.
