Our project was selected from among 6,353 applications from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico after a process of multiple levels of review, feedback, and diligence involving peer applicants and an external Evaluation Panel recruited for experience relevant to this cause. This study provides insights and projections for both the medical savings and avoided burden of diabetes cases that would result from using a fraction of New York Metropolitan area "nonprofit" hospital profits to deliver the NDPP. With profits for the 25 largest Metropolitan area hospitals reported to be $1.43 billion, even 25% of those profits could fund evidence-based diabetes prevention for 357,000 pre-diabetics, thereby preventing 207,060 new diabetes cases!
