Dr. Jill Caviglia-Harris, professor of economics and finance, and environmental studies, at Salisbury University (MD), has studied the land use impact of the Amazon rainforest for more than 20 years, focusing on understanding the underlying tradeoffs between development and deforestation. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, among other agencies, and published in scholarly journals including World Development, Environmental and Resource Economics, and the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.
Having recently returned from conducting field work in Rondonia, where many of the recent fires originated, she is available to speak with reporters about the ecological and policy factors currently affecting the rainforest.
