Newswise — Cambridge, Mass. – Aileen Starnbach, MD, has been named Chair of Anesthesia at Mount Auburn Hospital. A long-time member of the Mount Auburn medical staff, Starnbach has served with distinction as the Interim Chair of Anesthesia for the past twelve months.

“Dr. Starnbach was chosen at the end of an extensive national search and is an outstanding, highly experienced physician leader,” said Jeanette Clough, President of Mount Auburn Hospital. “Her clinical and administrative leadership over the past year has been instrumental as we fought and continue to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Starnbach aboard in this new, official capacity.”

Starnbach is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Washington School of Medicine. She completed her Anesthesia Residency and Cardiac Anesthesia fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital. After joining Anesthesia Associates of Massachusetts (AAM), Starnbach held increasingly complex leadership roles in the organization, culminating in her position as Chief Medical Officer. Starnbach then helped lead the highly successful integration of AAM into the Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine.

“I am honored to have been selected to continue working with the exceptional faculty in the Department of Anesthesia,” said Starnbach. “The hardworking and committed team shares my dedication to fulfilling the mission of Mount Auburn Hospital and together we will continue to provide the best possible care for our patients.”

Starnbach steps into this position previously held by J. Michael Haering, MD, who served as chair from 2001-2020.
